Lindy hop is a fun, playful, and energetic dance that was born in the dance halls of Harlem during the Roaring 20s and became wildly popular during the Big Band era of the 1930s and 40s. Lindy evolved from the Charleston and other jazz dances into a new dance form called swing. By definition, swing is danced to swinging jazz, and like jazz, Lindy emphasizes improvisation.
